The organ has had a very special place in the hearts of jazz fans since Jimmy Smith redefined the instrument in the mid-1950s and launched a wave of heavy-swinging gospel-flavoured tunes that brought jazz back onto the dance floor with a thump. Taking this tradition forward is Organics, Ireland's leading hammond organ jazz trio comprising Justin Carroll (hammond organ), John Moriarty (guitar) and Kevin Brady (drums). Drawing on a wide range of influences from the Blues and the American songbook to Chitlin club funk, Organics combine finger-popping grooves with twisting bebop lines and even a hint of Klezmer.

Organics were awarded a place on Young Musicwide 2004, Music Network's professional development scheme for emerging young musicians. As recipients of the award they have toured Ireland extensively performing in many of Music Network's partner promoter venues and also released their debut CD, "New Light" under the scheme. Since early 2007, Organics have joined Music Network's roster of artists, the international strand of which saw them perform at Glasgow Arts Festival in June 2007 with support from Culture Ireland.

Organics has been playing together since 1997 when they performed regular Friday night jazz session in Slattery's, Rathmines, as well as regular appearances at JJ Smyths. The Dublin-based ensemble has been the jam-session house band at the Cork Jazz Festival for a number of years, supported Gil Scott-Heron in Vicar Street in 2001, as well as performing at jazz festivals in Dublin, Bray, Birr, Waterford Spraoi and the Dublin Fringe Festival.
