Music Network Artist Residency with guitarist Redmond O’Toole, in partnership with The National Opera House and Wexford County Council

Invited to perform in Wexford by artist in residence and his former student Redmond O’Toole, this concert at the National Opera House is a rare opportunity to hear one of the great classical guitarists of our time. According to O’Toole, “A giant of the guitar scene, Oscar Ghiglia has had a profound influence on the direction of the classical guitar internationally; he brought a new level of interpretation to the instrument and then set about passing it on through his famous masterclasses. Dublin Guitar Quartet, John Feeley and myself all attended his classes over the years - but the National Opera House appearance is his first ever Irish concert! He will perfom a programme of quintessential guitar music including some of his best loved pieces that he brings a lifetime of depth and experience to.”

Ghiglia has given concerts and masterclasses throughout the world. In addition to appearing extensively in North and South America and Europe, he is a frequent performer in East Asia, Israel, Argentina, New Zealand and the South Pacific, and has recorded for Angel, Nonesuch and Stradivarius Records. While enjoying an active performing career, Ghiglia has always favoured teaching as a sister-profession and has taught almost every well-known guitarist today.  The Hartt School of Music awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2004 for his outstanding contributions to classical guitar teaching and performance. In 2009, the Guitar Foundation of America presented him with their prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
