Degani Ensemble with Lynda Lee (soprano)

"A lush fruity voice, formidable technique and an imposing actress. She rightly dominated the opera with her virtuoso performance. "

Opera Magazine on Lynda Lee

Music Network presents a concert by the Degani Ensemble (Matthew Manning (oboe), Alan Smale (violin), David James (cello), David Adams (harpsichord) with Lynda Lee (soprano) in Triskel Christchurch on Thursday 15th December at 8pm performing movements from the Bach 'Cello Suites and arias by Bach. Tickets are €15 / €12 and can be booked on Tel. 021 7272022. This concert is promoted by Triskel Arts Centre and Music Network.

The Degani Ensemble was originally formed around 1984 when a group of friends got together to perform and record a wide range of chamber music. Based around the versatile combination of string trio and oboe, the group has adapted over the years to include other repertoire using wind soloists, piano, string quartet and voice. In 1985 the ensemble gave the inaugural tour of the newly formed Music Network, and in the same year began an extensive survey of the classical and modern repertoire for oboe quartet for RTE, contributing a number of fine recordings. During the early years, the ensemble was increasingly in demand as a string quartet, and as a specialist contemporary music ensemble giving concerts and masterclasses at many festivals nationwide.

For this very special concert in Triskel Christchurch, the Degani Ensemble are joined by soprano Lynda Lee. Lynda Lee studied singing with Dr. Veronica Dunne at the College of Music in Dublin. During this time, she was the recipient of many national vocal awards and bursaries and also represented Northern Ireland in the Cardiff Singer of the World and was a finalist and prizewinner at the International Belvedere Competition in Vienna.

She made her professional debut with Opera Theatre Company in Handel’s Tamerlano and went on to have a long association with the composer internationally. She has performed with all the Irish Opera Companies such Wexford Festival Opera, Opera Ireland, Opera Northern Ireland and is a regular soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Following several leading Handel roles such as Xerxes (Opernwelt Best Newcomer Award Nomination), Agrippina and Zenobia (Radamisto) (Opernwelt Best Performance Award Nomination) for International Handel Festivals in Germany, she was invited to go on contract with Oper Leipzig.
