Originally from Venezuela and now living in the US, virtuoso pianist Edward Simon grew up in a family of musicians, surrounded by the sounds and rhythms of Latin and Caribbean music. This is something very evident in his playing and writing. While Edward may be considered as part of a new generation of multilingual musicians who have grown up studying classical, jazz and Latin American music, he is inventing a language that transcends any rigid genre.
Edward is joined here by renowned international Irish jazz musicians Michael Coady (bass) and Stephen Keogh (drums). The tour forms part of Edward's latest CD release and sees the trio explore new musical avenues with inroads into Celtic music set against a backdrop of Latin rhythm and jazz harmony. This is a rare opportunity to see one of the worlds great contemporary jazz pianists. Not to be missed.......
Free Workshop
The trio will give a workshop on the afternoon of the concert. This is open to all – musicians and non-musicians alike – and will cover subjects such as Latin American rhythms, pulse training and rhythm section and ensemble playing. Places are limited so please call before hand to book.
