Terpsycordes Quartet Mar 2011

"[Their] inventive rediscovery of Schubert's most traveled compositions won me over. Like a blast of cold water, it opened my ears to what I had been missing in his music. "

Frederic Beudot

"The performances of the Terpsycordes Quartet contain much to admire."

International Record Review

Given their dizzying virtuosity and lyrical power, it’s only fitting that this multi-award winning ensemble takes its name from Terpsichore, the whirling muse of dance and song. At a time when it is increasingly hard to stand out from the crowd, this is one of the few string quartets that regularly performs a varied repertoire on both modern and period instruments, while the chemistry created by the contrasting personalities prompted one critic to describe the group as “a collision of an Italian, one Bulgarian and two Swiss”.

The Terpsycordes Quartet’s highly eclectic sound is the result of perspiration as well as inspiration – the finesse of their playing is grounded in a meticulous study of texts and styles, and the quartet has been critically acclaimed for its bold reworkings of well-worn classics. No wonder then, that since winning a First Prize at the Geneva Conservatory in 2001, the Terpsycordes Quartet has built up a reputation as one of the most remarkable ensembles of their generation.
