CAN Percussion Trio

Noel Eccles, Alex Petcu, and Chris Stynes

Playing a range of over thirty percussion instruments including marimbas, vibraphones, crotales, lion drums, taiko, tom toms, bass drums and more.

Brace yourself for exotic timbres, pulsing rhythms and interwoven melody lines as three masters of the orchestral percussion section take centre stage. Add to this the visual spectacle of over thirty percussion instruments on stage and the positively viral energy of the CAN Percussion Trio and you are in for a real treat. The ensemble is the brainchild of Noel Eccles, musical director of the first Riverdance tour, member of folk-rock titans Moving Hearts, former principal percussionist with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and go-to guy for a host of luminaries from U2, Elvis Costello and The Chieftains to Brian Eno and Elmer Bernstein.

Trading blows with Noel on this Music Network tour are Chris Stynes and Alex Petcu, two of Ireland’s rising percussionists. Both have performed regularly with many of Ireland's leading professional groups, playing everything from contemporary and classical music to musical theatre, rock and pop. With a repertoire of contemporary percussion works from a range of leading international composers, and the strangest line up of instruments you’ll see this year, expect some familiar tunes, and a few surprises!

Programme to include music by Steve Reich, Minoru
Miki, N.J. Zivkovic and works such as Nagoya Marimbas,
Marimba Spiritual and Music for Pieces of Wood
