McDonagh Sisters: New and Established Works for Piano and Cello

Presented with funding from the Music Network Performance and Touring Award

Ailbhe McDonagh (Cello) Orla McDonagh (Piano)

The McDonagh Sisters, Ailbhe and Orla, are two of Ireland’s most exciting musicians.  Graduates of the Juilliard School for the Performing Arts, the Eastman School of Music and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in the United States, both have recently relocated home to Ireland.  Their cello/piano duo was launched with a tour of the United States in 2007.  Since that time, the duo has performed internationally to great acclaim.

This concert marks the Irish launch of The McDonagh Sisters Duo.  They will perform two masterworks from the chamber repertoire, Cesar Franck’s sublime Sonata in A major and Benjamin Britten’s powerful Sonata in C major.  Passionate about contemporary music, their programme includes a World Premiere by Irish composer, Robert Casey.

Ailbhe and Orla joined the faculty of the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2010.  Both perform internationally as soloists and chamber musicians in addition to their appearances with the Duo.  Upcoming engagements include recitals in France, Japan and the United States.
