"Tony MacMahon is one of the great Irish traditional musicians of our time." Don Meade, The Irish Voice

"Allan MacDonald's music has an awesome rugged finesse that is unsurpassed in contemporary piping." The Living Tradition, folkmusic.net

"This spellbinding album of four-string banjo music by Carberry...shows how versatile the instrument can be." Earl Hitchner, The Irish Echo

Our second traditional music tour of the season, The Long Note, also heads back into the mists of time to explore the musical traditions of Gaelic Scotland and Ireland, demonstrating in the most lyrical way how the Ring of Kerry, the Butt of Lewis and Aberdeenshire all share a common culture.

Tony MacMahon needs little introduction: as broadcaster and button accordion player he has performed and worked with most of the great Irish trad players of the past half-century: his much-lauded interpretations of slow airs also reveal his affinity for the old Gaelic past. In this tour he will perform the traditional music of counties Clare and Longford alongside virtuoso banjo player Angelina Carberry, who since 2000 has wowed critics and fellow musicians alike with her albums Memories from the Holla, An Traidisiún Beo and an eponymous duet with husband Martin Quinn.

Expert piper Allan MacDonald, who hails from the Gaelic-speaking community of Glenuig, Moidart in the Western Scottish Highlands, brings to life the lyrical sounds of the rarely-heard pibroch (piobaireachd), the 17th-century pipe music played at court and by military bands. He's also a mighty fine vocalist whose singing is steeped in the rhythms of the Gaelic language.
