Music Network Continuing Professional Development Programmes (CPD)

Music Network provides three Professional Development Programmes for Irish and Ireland-based professional musicians:

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training Programme 2009/10

Music Network invites applications from Irish and Ireland-based professional performing musicians and composers leading or with an interest in leading workshops with community and outreach settings including:

  • schools (primary and post-primary)
  • community groups (e.g. active retirement groups or youth groups)
  • healthcare settings (e.g. mental healthcare or older people in residential care)
  • early years music (working with children from 18 months)

The Programme aims to provide professional musicians and composers with the support, resources and confidence to develop their outreach skills and to encourage them apply these skills in a wide range of outreach settings.

Elaine Agnew, recognised as Ireland's leading music educationalist, is the Artistic Advisor to this course and she will be joined by a team of specialists from Ireland and the UK to deliver this Programme. The course weekends are delivered in a workshop style, creating an interactive and engaging learning environment.

Each course participant must be supported by a bursary from a relevant support body such as a Local Authority Arts Office, Professional Performing Group or other relevant body.

Deadline for applications is Tuesday 4th August, 2009

Making Overtures:

Making Overtures provides accessible training in the non-musical facets of a professional musician’s career including issues of self-promotion and self-management. Presenters from Ireland and the UK are invited to present seminars and workshops addressing relevant information for professional and emerging professional musicians in Ireland. Following positive feedback from both the 2007 and 2008 courses, Music Network will offer this course again in Summer 2009.

European Music in Health Training Programme 2008-2010

Music Network (Ireland), Musique & Santé (France), the Royal Northern College of Music (UK), and the Musical Academy of Cracow (Poland) are working together to develop a pilot European Music in Healthcare Settings Training Programme.

Music in Healthcare Settings involves an innovative approach that employs music in healthcare contexts for cultural rather than clinical purposes.

Four Irish musicians have been selected to participate in this programme and they will be engaging in a series of training weeks with French, Polish and UK musicians in Paris, Manchester, Krakow and Dublin between October 2009 and May 2010.

This project is funded by the Leonardo da Vinci – Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union.
