Carole Nelson announced as latest recipient of The Piano Scheme 2017

Piano scheme supported by Jeffers Pianos, in association with Galway Jazz Festival and Music Network

 

Music Network is delighted to announce that Carole Nelson is the latest recipient of The Piano Scheme 2017, an initiative that aims to provide access to concert standard pianos for professional musicians resident in Ireland and working in jazz/improvised music, for public performances throughout the country.

Carole Nelson is one of Ireland's most highly-regarded musicians.  Pianist, saxophonist, vocalist, songwriter, teacher, producer and composer, her award-winning songs with Dublin-based jazz group Zrazy have earned her an Irish Gold Disc, a USA Glama award and many other plaudits. Zrazy's latest album, The Art of Happy Accidents is "a dazzling collection" Irish Independent. Her latest project, the Carole Nelson Trio with Cormac O’Brien (double bass) and Dominic Mullen (drums) debuted at the Trio Trio Piano Series, Dublin 2015 and their debut CD, One Day in Winter, is due for release in November 2017.

Carole will be supplied with pianos for two forthcoming concerts with the Carole Nelson Trio. The performances will take place on Friday 1st February 2018 at Sofa Sessions @Billy Byrnes, Kilkenny and Sunday 3rd February 2018 at The Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely. Full listings details below.

Initiated by Galway Jazz Festival, in partnership with Music Network and supported by Jeffers Pianos, The Piano Scheme 2017 aims to:

  • Facilitate increased employment opportunities, and promote fair remuneration, for Ireland-resident musicians
  • Increase regional access to live jazz/improvised music performance for audiences
  • Develop the range of promoters programming jazz/improvised music throughout Ireland.

Applications are received on a rolling basis with the results being communicated each following month. Application procedure and guidelines available at musicnetwork.ie/musicians/opportunities.

Previous award recipients include pianist Izumi Kimura who will be supplied with a Steinway Model M for her solo concert on November 29th 2017 at Smock Alley Theatre Boy's School, Dublin, book tickets at smockalley.com. Other recipients include Francesco Turrisi and Kieran Quinn for two concerts each at Sligo Jazz Festival in July. Irish jazz ensemble F-JOB were supported for two concerts featuring jazz trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz on Thursday 3rd August at Billy Byrne’s, Kilkenny and Saturday 5th August at The Summit Inn, Howth (as part of Howth Jazz Festival 2017).
