MUSIC NETWORK IN ASSOCIATION WITH RTÉ LYRIC FM, LAUNCH LOVE:LIVE MUSIC 2011, IRELAND’S NATIONAL MUSIC DAY, TO TAKE PLACE ON FRIDAY 8TH APRIL 2011

love:live music 2011, Ireland’s National Music Day, takes place on Friday 8th April and is coordinated by Music Network in association with RTÉ lyric FM and supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport. For the second year running, there will be lots of free live music events in cities and towns across the land as well as two flagship events in Dublin and Limerick, with live broadcasts from these and other events throughout the day on RTÉ lyric fm. With events taking place everywhere from arts centres to libraries to workplaces, everyone is encouraged to get involved to celebrate live music performance of all kinds! To find out about events in your area, or to register your own event, visit www.lovelivemusic.ie or call 01 671 9429.

To celebrate love:live music in Limerick, Music Network presents Camille O’Sullivan at Belltable, Limerick from 2.30pm. Described as "Ravishing, a superb performer and great singer” (The Guardian) she has built a formidable international reputation over the last couple of years. Also performing is the brand new quartet, Gato Azul (Francesco Turrisi, accordion & percussion, Robbie Harris, bodhran, Michael Coady, double bass, Lucas Gonzales, guitar), playing their unique blend of jazz and world music; and talented sisters,  Cashell Duo (Sophie Cashel, piano and Anna Cashell, violin) performing works by Debussy, John Cage and Lili Boulanger. This concert takes place at Belltable, 69 O’Connell St., Limerick from 2.30-4.00pm on Friday 8th April.

The celebrations continue in The Sugar Club, Dublin from 8.30pm, with singer-songwriter Mick Flannery, "a songwriting force to be reckoned with” (The Irish Times). The unique Dublin Guitar Quartet, will play contemporary works by composers such as Philip Glass and exciting new group, The Listeners, led by multi-instrumentalist Emer Mayock, will be representing the best of the traditional music scene. Finally, award-winning pianist Michael McHale completes the line-up in spectacular style, playing Beethoven and Rachmaninov.

Both concerts in Limerick and Dublin are free but ticketed. Call 01 671 9429 or email admin@musicnetwork.ie to book your place at either of these events.  For those that can’t make it, these concerts can be heard on RTÉ lyric fm’s The John Kelly Ensemble and The Blue of the Night respectively on Friday 8th April.

Building on last year's success, love:live music 2011 is off to a great start with events already registered across the country and more to be added in the coming weeks. There is an eclectic mix of concerts; from an evening of piping and drumming with the award winning Cullen Pipe Band; rap and rock at Finglas Youth Resource Centre; a choral performance by Laois County Council Choir whose debut performance was a highlight of love:live music 2010 . This year’s event features large ensembles such as Laois School of Music Orpheus Orchestra, to small groups like four-piece Carameen in Kildare and soloists including guitarist Redmond O’ Toole in Navan. Unusual events already up on the site include an Instrument Making Workshop as a part of Limerick School of Music’s festivities, and a parent and baby workshop in Draíocht Arts, Centre, Blanchardstown.  There will also be an extensive programme of Music in the Workplace events, details of which are to be announced shortly.

With this much diversity in styles and ensembles, love:live music offers a lot of reasons to look forward to Friday 8th April!
