Music Network Announces Autumn Season 2011
06 July 2011
Music Network today announced the line-up for its Autumn Season 2011. With an eclectic line-up of talented Irish and international artists, the concerts offer audiences around the country the chance to experience the very best in Irish and international chamber, traditional and jazz at affordable prices. Music Network tours are funded by the Arts Council and are presented in association with RTÉ lyric fm.
Describing what’s on offer, Music Network CEO Deirdre McCrea explains, “Our season begins with the all-star line-up of Tommy Peoples, Laoise Kelly and Breanndán Ó Beaghlaoich brewing up a storm as they showcase tunes from the West of Ireland. When a Donegal fiddler, Mayo harpist and Kerry box player get together, anything can happen!
In October it’s all change as jazz quintet Thought-Fox, winner of Music Network’s Young Musicwide Award in 2010, offer their singular take on jazz. The ethereal blend of quiet lyricism, impressionist colour and odd-time grooves is topped by the extraordinary vocal stylings of Lauren Kinsella.
Breaking with tradition, what would normally be our first classical tour of the season is really a genre-defying musical experience. Hailing from the mountains of Austria, string trio Netnakisum is probably best described as a force of nature, playing classical, folk and contemporary music with dizzying skill whilst sporting Alpine traditional dress. Drawing almost as much on their vocal as their instrumental abilities, this will be a high energy tour and, as they say in the ads, Netnakisum are not to be missed! Our December tour features Ukrainian ‘wunderpianist’ Alexej Gorlatch, who’d already run off with a slew of awards in his teenage years when he won the Dublin International Piano Competition in 2009. His velvet-like quality of touch, expressive playing, and effortless mastery of the keyboard have wowed fans and critics alike. Catch this rising star in an intimate venue while you still can.”
Tickets for all regional concerts are available from individual venues around the country. Single tickets for all Dublin concerts with the exception of Alexej Gorlatch are €15 (€10 conc. for students and over 65s) or €40 for a family ticket. The Alexej Gorlatch concert at St. George’s Hall in Dublin Castle is this year’s Music Network Gala concert and single tickets are €20/ €15(concession). Season tickets are available at €60 each (€40 conc.) or €150 for a family season ticket. Season Tickets can be purchased here or click on the links below for further info on each of the tours.
