MUSIC NETWORK IN ASSOCIATION WITH RTÉ LYRIC FM, LAUNCH LOVE:LIVE MUSIC

02 March 2010

Love:live music, Ireland’s first National Music Day, takes place on Friday April 16th and is coordinated by Music Network in association with RTÉ lyric FM and supported by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism. In recognition of the influence that music has in our lives, everyone is invited to join in this celebration across all types of music: from big bands to buskers, hip hop to Bartok and everything in between. In this, the inaugural year, there will be lots of free live music events in cities and towns across the land as well as two flagship events in Dublin and Limerick. To find out about events in your area, or to register your own event, visit www.lovelivemusic.ie or call 01 671 9429.

To celebrate love:live music in Limerick, Music Network presents "The most gifted young pianist on the scene”, (The Irish Times) Greg Felton and his trio band mates (Cormac O’Brien, double bass, Seán Carpio, drums) who will team up with special guest vocalist Isa Wiss. Also performing are the three exciting young talents of Syrius Trio (Elizabeth Cooney, violin, Jane Cords-O’Hara, cello and Bobby Chen piano), who present the repertoire of the piano trio in a fresh and dynamic way. Complementing the concert are early music duo Tonos (Roisin O Grady, soprano and Eamon Sweeney, baroque guitar) who specialise in the little-known repertoire for voice and guitar from the to seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This concert takes place at St. John’s Church from 2pm.

The celebrations continue in Dublin, with a traditional Irish music concert featuring some of the finest musicians in the land including Slide, a "powerhouse quintet of traditional musicians with attitude” (The Irish Times), Fidil “...three exceptional and ambitious musicians” (The Irish Times) and duo Brendan Begley & Caoimhín O Raghallaigh performing “…some of the most maddeningly nourishing, elevating and mesmerizing Irish traditional music you'll hear", (Irish Echo). Catch these outstanding musicians in concert at the Button Factory from 8pm.  Both concerts in Limerick and Dublin are free but ticketed. Call 01 671 9429 or email admin@musicnetwork.ie to book your place at either of these events.  For those that can’t make it, these concerts can be heard on RTÉ lyric fm’s The John Kelly Ensemble and The Blue of the Night respectively on Friday 16th April.

Other events taking place as part of love:live music on Friday 16th April include the opening night of Sligo New Music Festival with a new commission by Gavin Bryars; an afternoon performance of Thomas Moore's melodies by renowned pianist Una Hunt in Wexford; County Cork School of Music present youth groups from all over the county in concert; Waterford Healing Arts Trust hosts open mike lunchtime session; Composer George Higgs takes to the highways and byways of Dublin on his Joculator - a travelling self powered composition machine i.e. an adapted bicycle that makes music! and The National Youth Orchestra of Ireland perform a concert in Airfield, Dundrum, Co. Dublin on the theme of music in nature.
