MUSIC NETWORK PRESENTS ARIADNE DASKALAKIS AND TRIO VINTAGE ON TOUR FROM 20 – 27 MARCH 2010

10 February 2010

“Chamber-music gold” MusicWeb International

[Daskalakis’] striking athleticism, musical insight, expressive embellishment and elegiac lyricism” The Strad

Music Network’s March baroque tour sees prize-winning violinist Ariadne Daskalakis go head-to-head with two of Germany’s foremost early music specialists: Markus Möllenbeck (cello) and Gerald Hambitzer (harpsichord). Daskalakis and Trio Vintage will perform a programme including works by J.S. Bach, Handel, Baltzar, Matteis, Geminiani and Biber that is sure to be “Chamber-music gold” (MusicWeb International). Music Network tours provide a wonderful opportunity to see some of the world’s foremost musicians at affordable prices in venues around Ireland, and are presented in association with The Irish Times and RTÉ lyric fm.  Music Network is funded by the Arts Council. Further information from (01) 671 9429 or www.musicnetwork.ie.

Daskalakis has been playing on period instruments since her time with the acclaimed Manon Quartet in the late 1990s, and often performs without a conductor following the traditions of the time. She has won many plaudits for her soulful playing, dazzling technique and astonishing ability to adapt her sound to suit different composers and periods. A featured soloist with orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra and the Prague Chamber Orchestra, she has performed in many of Europe’s most prestigious chamber music venues.

The perfect foil for Daskalakis’ sparkling sound and rhythmic power, Markus Möllenbeck was for many years the principal cellist of the ground-breaking Musica Antiqua Köln under Reinhard Goebe and has also worked extensively with La Stagione Frankfurt and the Musiciens du Louvre. Gerald Hambitzer is one of most sought-after harpsichordists of his generation and has appeared on over 40 CDs. A long-term member of Concerto Köln, he is perhaps best known for his solo recordings of harpsichord concertos by J.S. Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Francesco Durante
