Results of first round of The Piano Scheme 2017 announced
02 March 2017
Music Network is delighted to announce the results of the first round of The Piano Scheme 2017, a new opportunity for musicians supported by Jeffers Pianos, in association with Galway Jazz Festival.
The scheme aims to provide access to concert standard pianos for professional musicians resident in Ireland and working in jazz/improvised music, for public performances throughout the country.
Pianist Izumi Kimura has been selected in the first round of the scheme and will be supplied with a Steinway Model M for her solo concert on November 29th 2017 at Smock Alley Theatre Boy's School, Dublin. The concert programme will include music by John Cage, premiere of works by Irish composers and by Kimura herself, as well as structured improvisations.
Initiated by Galway Jazz Festival, in partnership with Music Network and supported by Jeffers Pianos, The Piano Scheme 2017 aims to:
- Facilitate increased employment opportunities, and promote fair remuneration, for Ireland-resident musicians
- Increase regional access to live jazz/improvised music performance for audiences
- Develop the range of promoters programming jazz/improvised music throughout Ireland.
Applications will be received on a rolling basis with the results being communicated each following month. Application procedure and guidelines available at musicnetwork.ie/musicians/opportunities.
