Music Network is delighted to announce the third instalment of its Artist Residency 2017 with The National Opera House and Wexford County Council, an exciting concert series curated by Redmond O’Toole that features a wealth of international and Irish musicians. On Saturday 12th August, soprano Sinéad Campbell-Wallace, accompanied by Redmond O’Toole on guitar, will perform a concert of 19th century Romantic music including a selection of Schubert's Lieder in arrangements by Johann Kaspar Mertz and John Duarte, interspersed with Italian Arias and pieces for solo guitar from Italian guitarist/composer Mauro Giuliani. Heart wrenching emotions and exquisite melodies are the order of the evening with subjects of love and loss that resonate as much with us today as they did with Schubert some two hundred years ago. Songs that were originally written for voice with piano are presented in a new light through the intimate medium of classical guitar and voice. Tickets €20 available at Tel. 053 912 2144/nationaloperahouse.ie.

Sinéad Campbell-Wallace studied at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin, National Opera Studio, London and the Britten-Pears young singers programme Aldeburgh, UK. She has appeared in major roles with Wexford Festival Opera here in Ireland, Buxton Festival, Grange Park Opera, Aldeburgh Festival, Classical Opera Company, Early Opera Company, Iford Arts and Neville Holt Opera in the UK, and the Batignano Festival in Italy. Her recent performances include Micaela (Carmen) at Cork Opera House, Zenobia (Radamisto) for Northern Ireland Opera and a Verdi Gala at the National Concert Hall Dublin in an early celebration of Dr. Veronica Dunne's ninetieth birthday. This summer, she will perform concerts with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin and Waterford, as well as this recital with Redmond O’Toole at the National Opera House, Wexford.

Redmond O’Toole is recognised as one of the most distinctive and original guitarists of his generation. He was the first to adopt Paul Galbraith’s ‘Brahms guitar’. This ground breaking instrument and technique uses an 8-string guitar in the position of a cello.  He has performed at major concert halls and events throughout Europe such as Passau International Guitar Festival, Germany, Irish National Concert Hall, Royal Dublin Society Concert Hall and Hallein Guitar Festival, Austria. He has performed as soloist with orchestras such as BBC Ulster and the Irish Baroque and has toured extensively as guitarist for legendary Irish group The Chieftains. He teaches at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. redmondotoole.com

The Music Network Artist Residency Programme 2017 was developed to provide the selected musician with access to resources to curate a concert series in collaboration with Wexford County Council Arts Office and The National Opera House, Wexford. Curated by guitarist Redmond O’Toole, the series has featured a concert with Wexford Sinfonia Orchestra and RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, and will include performances from traditional Irish musicians Zoë Conway and John McIntyre, Iranian-born and Dublin-based brothers Shaháb and Sháyán Coohe, Italian classical guitarist Oscar Ghiglia and the International Guitar Quartet. In conjunction with the concert series a Learning and Participation programme has been developed that will engage with a range of community groups. Full details at nationaloperahouse.ie.
