Airelle Besson, Sebastian Sternal & Jonas Burgwinkel Trio tour Ireland this October

16 September 2019

Three exceptional musicians currently blazing a trail across the European jazz scene

Airelle Besson, the captivating leader of the new wave of young European improvising trumpeters, will perform with pianist  Sebastian Sternal and drummer Jonas Burgwinkel at 5 locations across Ireland from 23rd – 27th October, culminating in a performance at Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. Tickets are on sale now, visit for full information.

Leading the new wave of young European improvising trumpeters, Airelle Besson is a formidable, compelling and frankly astonishing talent. Sometimes embracing a baroque sense of form and lyricism, she can turn on a sixpence and send forth grooves that mark her out as a fine jazz presence and a thoughtful and articulate composer. With the elegant and lucid playing of pianist Sebastian Sternal and drummer Jonas Burgwinkel bringing his classic jazz and avant garde sensibilities to the table, this is a trio whose music is both considered and free, communicative and compelling.

The Airelle Besson, Sebastian Sternal & Jonas Burgwinkel Trio was destined for great things from the first time their musical paths crossed. Since their debut performance at the Münster International Jazz festival which garnered fantastic reviews, their music has been described as “remarkably fresh” and their live performances as being “extraordinary” and “enriching” (All About Jazz).

Due to their demanding solo careers, it is only on very rare occasions that the trio find time to collaborate. When they do take to the stage their music is mesmerising, and this is a unique opportunity to see them perform live.

Music Network’s Autumn touring programme also includes virtuoso percussionists Alex Petcu, Emma King and Brian Dungan of Bangers and Crash Percussion Group in October, while in November Scottish guitarist Sean Shibe will tour with “increasingly hot property in the opera business” Ben Johnson – bringing intensity and a new clarity to Bach, Giuliani and Walton, and adventure and risk to contemporary work.

Ticket prices range from €5-€25 depending on the venue and special offer ticket bundles are available for Dublin concerts.
