Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office Musician-in-Residence Q&A with Craig Cox

29 August 2018

On Wednesday 5th September at 1pm, sound artist and composer Craig Cox, musician-in-residence at Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office invites locals to join him for a Q&A at dlr LexIcon as he shares his music making process. Details at libraries.dlrcoco.ie.

As musician-in-residence, Craig will explain his work, his influences, the process he uses and open up a discussion about sound art and music.

“For the discussion, I will present music by composers and artists who have significant influence on the work I'm making during the residency. We will then open it up into a broader discussion about site responsive work and the borders between sound art, field recording and music."

Craig’s residency will culminate in a performance of a new work inspired by and incorporating the incidental rhythms and percussive sounds made by the inhabitants of the area. Performing on violin and electronics, he will be joined by his frequent collaborator Aoife Hammond, an experimental guitarist and Sebastian Jezzi, jazz drummer. Composers Nikki Sheth and Aurelie Ferriere will also present intriguing spatial compositions as part of the concert programme on Thursday 13th September. Details at musicnetwork.ie/concerts.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office Musicians-in-Residence Scheme 2018 is jointly funded by the Arts Council, and managed by Music Network.
