Music Network Announces Autumn Season 2016

Music Network is delighted to announce a very special line-up for our Autumn Season 2016. In addition to the regular touring activity that will involve forty-four concerts in twenty-four locations throughout Ireland, a number of exciting commissions and events are planned to celebrate our 30th anniversary year.  Spanning a range of music from traditional Irish and Scottish to western swing from Texas, a harp and clarinet chamber duo, and an award winning concert pianist, as well as magnificent choral music and a spectacular large-scale harp performance, this season reveals a multitude of musical riches to experience.

Our season starts with a scintillating Traditional Irish music and dance tour: fleet-footed dance virtuoso Colin Dunne, fiddler Tola Custy, harpist Maeve Gilchrist and uilleann piper David Power perform ‘Edges of Light’, a newly-commissioned work inspired by the sights and sounds of an Irish dawn. Magical stuff!

October promises further reverie as we welcome back to Ireland the impassioned tones and sparkling fingerwork of delightful French pianist Nathalia Milstein, the first ever female winner of the Dublin International Piano Competition in 2015, while later in the month Chamber Choir Ireland and Chatham Saxophone Quartet, conducted by James Wood, present a stunning spiritual programme including music by world renowned composer, Arvo Pärt. Then it’s all change as Jools Holland faves Hot Club of Cowtown roll into town, gleefully cavorting with string-band jazz and western swing for an all-dancing good time. Early booking is highly recommended!

November sees the exquisite pairing of Belgian harpist Anneleen Lenaerts and Greek clarinettist Dionysis Grammenos, followed by two very special concerts showcasing the otherworldly sounds of vocal ensemble Trio Mediæval and trumpeter Arve Henriksen.

We will also be presenting a special event for Culture Night on Friday 16th September where we celebrate Ireland’s love of musical discovery and adventure in an intimate evening of live classical, jazz and traditional music. And finally, we are very excited to be premiering a specially-commissioned work for large-scale harp ensemble – truly a sight to behold – by the celebrated Irish composer Philip Martin. Details of both events will be announced at a later date.

Music Network’s mission is to make live music available and accessible to as many people as possible, giving Irish audiences the chance to experience the very best in international chamber, jazz and traditional music in venues throughout Ireland at affordable prices.  The autumn season tours are co-promoted with a network of valued partner promoters throughout Ireland in order to develop local capacity to provide musical activity. In addition, Music Network works with a range of partners in providing Learning and Participation programmes to music students.

Music Network tours are funded by the Arts Council and are presented in association with RTÉ lyric fm. Tickets for all regional concerts are available from individual venues around the country.  Single tickets for Dublin concerts range from €15 - €25 (including free programme) and can be purchased by calling Music Network on (01) 475 0224 or booking online at
