Music Network presents Hot Club of Cowtown on tour 25 October – 6 November 2016

"Spirit, originality and skill that would surely have impressed Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt back in 1930s."

 The Guardian

Don’t miss Jools Holland faves Hot Club of Cowtown when they roll into town from 25 October – 6 November, gleefully cavorting with string-band jazz and western swing for an all-dancing good time. Early booking is highly recommended! Details at Music Network tours are funded by the Arts Council and are presented in association with RTÉ lyric fm.

For two decades Hot Club of Cowtown have been setting stages ablaze with their intoxicating blend of jaw-dropping virtuosity and down-home melodies, weaving together country, ragtime, big band jazz and blues to awesome effect. Based in Austin, Texas, the globetrotting trio are long-serving musical ambassadors for the US State department, bringing a barrel of joy to venues from Azerbaijan to the Sultanate of Oman, while touring with everyone from Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson to Roxy Music.

Oozing warmth and charm, bassist Jake Erwin, guitarist Whit Smith and fiddler Elana James use every trick in the book to get those feet tapping: playing loose with tempos or ratcheting up the intensity with fretboard-blistering guitar licks, virtuosic fiddling and a Rockabilly-tinged slap-bass style. Be in no doubt: this music is for dancing and an old-fashioned good time!

Music Network works with a range of partners in providing Learning and Participation programmes to music students. As part of this tour, Hot Club of Cowtown will host workshops and demonstrations, both individually and as a group, with music students from Kylemore College in Dublin and Music Generation Louth. Music Network’s mission is to make live music available and accessible to as many people as possible and the Autumn 2016 season provides an opportunity to see some of the world’s foremost musicians throughout the country at affordable prices. 2016 is Music Network’s 30th anniversary and to celebrate a number of special events and commissions are planned in addition to the Autumn tours. November sees the premiere of a Music Network-commissioned work for large-scale harp ensemble—truly a sight to behold—by the celebrated Irish composer Philip Martin.   The Philip Martin commission is one of three commissions this season, along with ‘Edges of Light’, a new collaboration between prodigiously talented dancer Colin Dunne, fiddler Tola Custy, harpist Maeve Gilchrist and uilleann piper David Power that toured in September as well as a new commission by Anne Marie O’Farrell to be performed by Belgian harpist Anneleen Lenaerts and Greek clarinettist Dionysis Grammenos during their Music Network tour this November. The season ends with two very special concerts showcasing the otherworldly sounds of vocal ensemble Trio Mediæval and trumpeter Arve Henriksen. More details at
