“Extraordinary” – Australian Rolling Stone, on Ó Maonlaí

“Tim Edey is brilliant – in every which way. As a guitarist he has few peers. As a box player he’s a magician. As a character he’s off the scale.” – fRoots

“A superior instrumentalist in any idiom......impressively virtuosic” – The New York Times, on Burke

Trad fans, it doesn’t get much better than this: Liam Ó Maonlaí, one of Ireland’s most charismatic musicians, sharing a stage with legendary fiddle player Kevin Burke and virtuosic multi-instrumentalist Tim Edey. Specially curated by Music Network, the trio embarks on a twelve-date tour from 13 – 26 January 2016. Details here.

Described as one of Ireland’s best sean nós singers, Liam Ó Maonlaí has always remained faithful to his traditional roots despite global success with rock band Hothouse Flowers, while Kevin Burke’s fiddle playing has been at the forefront of traditional music for over 30 years. A member of trad supergroups The Bothy Band and Patrick Street, Burke’s distinctive fiddling fuses a Sligo style with a diverse range of musical influences.

Winner of BBC Radio 2’s Musician of the Year in 2012, Tim Edey is rated by many as one of the folk world's finest folk guitar and melodeon players. His infectious enthusiasm and musical versatility rounds out this dynamic trio blending tradition and virtuosity of the highest level.

Music Network’s mission is to make live music available and accessible to as many people as possible. During this tour, the musicians will host a variety of outreach activities for music students around the country, including a seminar with Kevin Burke on Irish fiddle, and guitar and accordion workshops with Tim Edey. Connecting our work in music performance to music education aims to give young musicians rich, holistic musical experiences.

Music Network’s Spring 2016 season provides an opportunity to see some of the world’s foremost musicians at affordable prices. The season also features a celebration of the song by Irish group Ergodos Musicians; music inspired by Shakespeare from jazz legend Andy Sheppard; one of classical music’s brightest stars Chloë Hanslip; and foot-stomping folk music with Le Vent du Nord. Music Network tours are funded by the Arts Council and are presented in association with RTÉ lyric fm. Tickets for all regional concerts are available from individual venues around the country.  Single tickets for Dublin are available from €15 and can be purchased by calling Music Network on (01) 475 0224 or booking online here.
