Brace yourself for a tour to remember as Music Network presents “Open Up: Greg Felton Meets Isa Wiss” this October. Irish pianist Greg Felton’s much-admired jazz trio go head to head with the incomparable jazz vocalist Isa Wiss, a natural-born improviser blessed with a truly astonishing voice. Catch these fearless improvisers as they explore new musical territories from 12 – 16 October 2010. Music Network tours provide a wonderful opportunity to see some of the world’s foremost music ensembles at affordable prices in venues around Ireland and are presented in association with RTÉ lyric fm.  Music Network is funded by the Arts Council.

It’s time for a blast from the future as Irish pianist Greg Felton’s much-admired jazz trio team up with Swiss sensation Isa Wiss.  Tipped as a major star of the future, Wiss is one of those musicians who defies description; her remarkable technique and three-octave range make her a truly free improviser who can switch from stuttering gasps and cries to honeyed tones in a single phrase.

Greg Felton is the perfect foil for Wiss’ vocal acrobatics. Hailed in the Irish Times as “the most gifted young pianist on the scene,” Felton is another intrepid improviser whose distinctive compositions and two-fisted technique draw on everything from jazz and folk traditions to South Indian classical music.

His intuitive and often playful approach to music is shared by drummer Seán Carpio, whose seductive grooves have made him a regular collaborator with Mikkel Ploug, Sebastien Texier, Louis Stewart and Ronan Guilfoyle.

The line-up is completed by bassist Cormac O’Brien, a fellow stalwart on the Irish jazz scene who has also played with international stars such as Bobby Watson, Jamie Baum, Dave Allen, Bjorn Vidar Solli, and Bruce Adams.

On Tour:  Tuesday 12th October, DUBLIN (The Coach House, Dublin Castle 8pm), Wednesday 13th October NEWBRIDGE  (Riverbank Arts Centre, 8 pm), Thursday 14th October THURLES  (The Source Arts Centre, 8 pm), Friday 15th October BRAY (Mermaid Arts Centre, 8 pm), Sunday 17th October LIMERICK (Dolan’s Upstairs, 9 pm), Tuesday 19th October CORK (Cork Arts Theatre, CAT Club, 8 pm).
