Music Network at Body & Soul 2016

Exceptional live music at the Woodlands Stage on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June

To celebrate our 30th anniversary, Music Network presented some of Ireland and the UK's finest traditional, classical and improvising musicians at Body & Soul's Woodlands Stage, highlighting the wealth of music making on our shores on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June.

Music Network CEO Sharon Rollston:

"It's great to be at Body & Soul this year because it allows us to broaden awareness of what Music Network does. We want to programme music into different spaces as a way to introduce people to new music that they may not have had the opportunity to hear before."

Musicians presented by Music Network included Irish squeeze box maestro and raconteur Séamus Begley joined by the 'sonically exquisite' (The Guardian) Scottish duo Catriona McKay and Chris Stout; Dublin electro-acoustic quartet OKO; award-winning Irish vocalist and songwriter Christine Tobin; Bangers and Crash percussion trio led by Alex Petcu (National Concert Hall Rising Star 2015); one of today's most successful quartets the Carducci Quartet; and last but not least a dream team brought together by Music Network in 2013 - button accordion master Máirtín O’Connor, fiddle player Zoë Conway and guitar and bouzouki player Donal Lunny.

Music Network CEO Sharon Rollston:

"We've had lots of really amazing feedback from different audience members..."

 - "I've been thoroughly blown away by this... it's one of the most amazing things I've seen." Audience member

 - "It's cool to be able to come to a festival like this - even in the lashings of rain - and to be able to see [these musicians] in this kind of setting." Audience member

Donal Lunny, musician:

"[We were] absolutely lifted out of it... it was really brilliant! I'll tell ya the rain became completely irrelevant... Once we played something, it was like the rain had stopped... it seemed like the audience forgot about it as well!"
