All art forms need to innovate in order to develop, stay relevant and thrive.
Commissioning is a vital part of the work we do to nurture music and musicians in Ireland. In 2020 we presented five newly-commissioned works to live audiences as part of our national touring programme along with one online premiere plus an additional 20 new works in our online series, The Butterfly Sessions. This commitment provides employment and promotional opportunities for Irish composers, bringing their work to the attention of renowned international performers and significant numbers of people during our national tours.
To date we have commissioned 66 new works from contemporary classical and traditional music composers.
