The Séamus Egan Project arrives on our shores for the very first time this May, led by the celebrated multi-instrumentalist, composer and co-founder of Irish-American super group Solas.

Hailed as a creative force in traditional music, Séamus is celebrated for his boundary-pushing artistry and ability to make every performance feel fresh, soulful and full of life.

Joined by a remarkable ensemble of collaborators including innovative Scottish fiddler Jenna Moynihan, acclaimed guitarist and composer Kyle Sanna and versatile multi-instrumentalist Owen Marshall, together this quartet delves deep into the Irish and Irish-American traditions, weaving intricately crafted arrangements of both highly energetic and sublimely serene melodies.

From flute and banjo to guitar and mandolin, Séamus’ virtuosity and effortless musicality have helped shape the sound of modern Irish music for over three decades. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience one of its most influential figures live on stage.

About the artists

It’s hard to think of an artist in traditional Irish music more influential than Séamus Egan. As a multi-instrumentalist, he has put his distinctive mark on the sound of the Irish flute, tenor banjo, guitar, mandolin, tin whistle and low whistle. As a performer, few others can make so many instruments or such wickedly complex ornaments seem so effortless. From his beginnings as a teen prodigy to his groundbreaking solo work with Shanachie Records and founding of Irish-American powerhouse band Solas, he has inspired multiple generations of musicians and helped define the sound of Irish music today. Egan’s Solas was the pre-eminent Irish-American band of their generation for 3 decades, continuously renewing Irish music with fresh ideas. A celebrated composer, he was behind the soundtrack for the award-winning film The Brothers McMullen, co-wrote Sarah McLachlan’s breakout hit I Will Remember You and has scored numerous documentaries and indie films. Séamus Egan’s mastery of the tradition is something special to behold.

Jenna Moynihan is an exceptional Scottish fiddler and experimentalist who believes that tradition is meant to be a starting point for great inspiration. While studying at Berklee College of Music, she received The Fletcher Bright Award and The American Roots Music Award – prestigious honours given annually to one outstanding string player. Moynihan performs in a duo with Scottish harpist Mairi Chaimbeul and has performed with The Milk Carton Kids, Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards, Darol Anger & The Furies, Old Blind Dogs, Hamish Napier, Bruce Molsky, Phil Cunningham, and as a soloist at Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops. In addition to a busy touring schedule, she teaches at music camps & courses throughout the year and is Assistant Professor in the String Department at Berklee College of Music.

Kyle Sanna has been active as a composer, producer, guitarist and improviser in New York City since 2000. As a guitarist, he primarily performs improvised and traditional Irish music. He has shared the stage or studio with many of today’s virtuosos, including multiple Grammy Award-winning artists Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Chris Thile, as well as with some of the greatest living interpreters of the Irish tradition including Kevin Burke and Martin Hayes. His compositions have been performed at Bach House (Eisenach, Germany), Royal Opera House (Muscat, Oman), Sydney’s ABC studios and New York’s Carnegie Hall. Sanna has given guitar workshops at the Montana State Women’s Prison, an orphanage in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and at numerous universities and festivals from Alaska to Cuba.

Over the past two decades, multi-instrumentalist Owen Marshall has emerged as one of the foremost accompanists of traditional music. He has garnered much praise for his fluid and spontaneous bouzouki work in addition to his driving and melodic guitar accompaniment. Marshall has toured and recorded on over 30 albums with artists such as Copley Street, Dervish, Liz Carrol, Riptide, Pine Tree Flyers, The Press Gang, Wooden Nickels, Haas and A Christmas Celtic Sojourn. Released in 2022, his debut album Throughline features collaborations with traditional music luminaries Allison DeGroot, Baron Collins-Hill, Emily Troll, Isa Burke and Jenna Moynihan. Marshall is in demand at music camps throughout New England and the U.S. where he shares his individual approach to accompanying traditional music.
