Music Network presents extraordinary Russian pianist Anna Tsybuleva on tour 1 – 11 March 2018

“Superb pianism and intelligent musicianship” – Gramophone

“Absorbing” – The Times

Brace yourself for an edge-of-the-seat performance from the extraordinary Russian pianist Anna Tsybuleva, on a Music Network tour from 1 – 11 March. Winner of the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition in 2015, she has astounded audiences and critics alike with her daring and bravura-filled interpretations of classic works. Performing a programme featuring a selection of Chopin’s finest nocturnes and mazurkas, a set of Tchaikovsky’s character pieces, “The Seasons”, and a new work by Irish composer Siobhán Cleary evoking a Gaelic winter. Tour details at musicnetwork.ie.

Tsybuleva's muscular, rhythmic playing and overtly nuanced attack give every accent a meaning, infusing the most well-worn pieces with modernity and breathing new life into neglected works. “A born performer” [International Piano Magazine], she clearly relishes every second at the keyboard while captivating the audience with her expressive playing and wonderfully enigmatic sense of humour. Since her success in Leeds, Tsybuleva has performed a string of engagements as a soloist with many of Europe’s leading ensembles, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Basel Symphony Orchestra. She has also given recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Shanghai Opera House, the Salle Cortot in Paris, and Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.

Siobhán Cleary’s 'An Cailleach', commissioned by Music Network especially for this tour, will receive its premiere at St. Ann’s Church, Dawson Street, Dublin 2 on Thursday 1st March. Cleary says of her work, “This piece explores the winter soundscape in all its vagaries from the quiet, crisp stillness of the shortest days to the squalling, sweeping gales that usher in the spring as An Cailleach relinquishes her hold". This is the first of two new works commissioned by Music Network for the Spring 2018 season – Benjamin Dwyer’s 'sin título' will be performed by guitarist Thibaut Garcia and cellist Isang Enders in April – continuing Music Network’s work of actively commissioning and touring new works by Irish composers, as well as programming existing contemporary Irish music within relevant concert programmes.

Siobhán Cleary will give a Composer’s Voice talk during the concert at Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar on Wednesday 7th March. Composer’s Voice is an audience development initiative of the Contemporary Music Centre and is made possible through the continued funding of the Contemporary Music Centre by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon. www.cmc.ie
