Autumn 2024 Tours Announced

Autumn 2024 Tours Announced
We are pleased to announce our Autumn 2024 tours, working with our network of partners we will present live music at 14 venues in 10 counties.

Featuring a world class array of traditional, jazz and classical musicians, these tours promise to bring unforgettable concerts to audiences island-wide

For September, we bring together three extraordinary artists. The incomparable Mike McGoldrick, a player whose virtuosity and creativity has seen him collaborate with everyone from Mary Chapin Carpenter to Mark Knopfler, will be joined by the exceptionally talented and widely acclaimed fiddle and viola player Nollaig Casey, and one of Ireland’s fast rising stars of the folk world, guitarist and singer Niall McCabe. No doubt this trio will have a fascinating musical conversation and we are all invited to listen in when they kick start the Autumn season with a tour that runs from 24th September to 6th October.

This tour will also feature the world premieres of two new Music Network commissions: a song commission by Niall McCabe and an instrumental commission by Nollaig Casey and Mike McGoldrick, both of which will premiere on 24th September in The Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire. The trio will also perform a date in London as part of the tour.

Next we'll present the celebrated percussionist Marilyn Mazur from 22nd to 26th October. Having shared the stage with some of the most important figures in the history of jazz including Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Jan Garbarek, Mazur is also renowned as a leader of an incredible variety of ensembles, one of which is the sensational Marilyn Mazur Special 4. With Mazur performing on a mesmerising array of gongs, bells and all things percussion, the Special 4 lineup is completed by the exceptionally talented Jakob Buchanan on flugelhorn, pianist Makiko Hirabayashi and Klavs Hovman on double bass. All About Jazz perhaps said it best when they described Mazur’s music as creating ‘an aura in which time stops, carrying us away to mysterious places’.

Our final tour of the season, from 23rd November to 1st December, presents violinist Francisco Fullana and pianist Alba Ventura, two of Spain’s leading international classical music stars. Both thrilling individual performers, they came together in 2023 to record and release Spanish Light, a gorgeous collection of Spanish and Catalan music. With a natural affinity for this repertoire, the album includes dazzling virtuoso pieces by the great violinist-composer Pablo de Sarasate, as well as the evocative Sonata Española by Joaquín Turina. Together this duo’s playing is something truly special and their November programme will feature delightful offerings from Spanish Light and promises some incredible performances of music by Bach and Mozart.

We are delighted to be working with such an eclectic array of artists who all have one thing in common: a level of musical excellence that will thrill listeners.
