Statement on the publication of Uneven Score: An Assessment of the Gender Balance for Publicly Funded Composer Opportunities on the Island of Ireland 2004-2019
Music Network welcomes the important research into gender balance across opportunities for composers in Ireland conducted by Dr. Michael Lydon and commissioned by Sounding the Feminists and the Contemporary Music Centre.

The analysis of representation and visibility of genders across publicly funded opportunities for composers from 2004 – 2019 highlights the gaps and challenges faced by sector and the need for ongoing and considered attention to gender equality in the work that we do.

We recognise that Music Network can play a significant role in making change happen. Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy (2021-2025) articulates our commitment to the key principles of equality. Our policy has been developed with an understanding that issues of equality, diversity and inclusion are constantly evolving, and its implementation is therefore subject to regular evaluation to ensure our ambitions are realised.

While substantial progress has been made here at Music Network, we also acknowledge there is always more that can be done to ensure equal access to opportunities. We remain committed to monitoring and improving on both gender equality and diversity across all our programmes.

Uneven Score was commissioned by Sounding the Feminists and the Contemporary Music Centre, and was funded by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
