We are delighted to present the third dlr Musician in Residence for 2021 trumpeter Darren Cornish Moore in concert. Working in a collaborative partnership with renowned organist Malcolm Proud, Moore’s Residency has focused on the music of Thomas Roseingrave and bringing to life the sound world of 17th and 18th century Dublin through an exploration and re-invention of some of the most beautiful music from that era.

Darren will perform on historical instruments such as the cornetto, said to have been played in Dublin hundreds of years ago, merging music of the past and present in a unique and engaging way.

This public performance to showcase the material developed during the Residency promises to be a wonderfully intimate evening of music.

Darren Cornish Moore is an accomplished trumpet and cornetto player. Among the many world-renowned groups with whom he works, Darren has played for the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the English Baroque Soloists, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Irish Baroque Orchestra, and His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts. He has appeared at the BBC Proms, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Lincoln Centre New York, and teaches both privately and as a visiting professor at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. His approach to playing historical music is to highlight the common themes of history, and to explore them in an inclusive way.

Malcolm Proud won first prize at the Edinburgh International Harpsichord Competition in 1982 after a year of study with Gustav Leonhardt. Since then he has enjoyed an international career both as a soloist and as a member of various ensembles. He has performed at many prestigious concert venues including the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Rooms, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Barbican London, Ton Halle Zurich, Frick Museum New York and Schwarzenberg Palace Vienna. In 2010 he played all six Brandenburg Concertos with Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s English Baroque Soloists at the BBC London Proms and at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival. He is principal harpsichordist with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and performs regularly with Chamber Choir Ireland and Sestina.

The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Musicians in Residence Scheme provides opportunities for performers and composers to develop and showcase new work and cultivate new artistic collaborations. The Residencies also serve to enrich the cultural environment of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and beyond. The scheme is jointly funded by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Arts Council and managed by Music Network.

The dlr Musicians in Residence Scheme was established in 2015. Previous Musicians-in-Residence have included composer and guitarist Dave Flynn, the Tommy Halferty Trio, chamber group Ikigai, percussionist and composer Éamonn Cagney, improvising pianist and composer Izumi Kimura, composer, sound designer and multi-instrumentalist Lara Gallagher, vocalist and songwriter Susan McKeown, pianist and composer Conor Linehan, sound artist and composer Craig Cox, musician and composer Sebastian Adams, The Eidola Trio, soprano Elizabeth Hilliard with composer Gráinne Mulvey, jazz drummer Matthew Jacobson and Metier, a jazz quintet led by Ronan Guilfoyle.
