Speaking from his studio in Shropshire, UK, jazz musician and audio visual producer Simon Peter King will offer practical advice and demonstrations on how to optimise the video content of online performances. Part of Taking Charge of your Performance Career: Performing Online 2020.

Complementing the previous session ‘Optimising your Audio’, Simon’s talk will offer tips and advice on issues such as aesthetics, camera angles, lighting, background, choice of venue, suitable equipment, and video editing programmes. The session will include a live demo using video editing software Premier Pro.

Music Network presents a special series of five interactive training sessions for professional musicians working in all musical genres. Taking the form of four webinars and one panel discussion, this free professional development course aims to help musicians develop important skills for showcasing their work online. It is just one of a number of ways in which Music Network has supported musicians during 2020.

Delivered by international industry professionals, the course will offer relevant and up-to-date advice in the areas of planning online performances, optimising your audio and video output, choosing a platform, and extending your online practice. Each session will comprise a 60 minute presentation followed by Q&A with participants. Please note that registration is essential to participate in the sessions. The presentations will be made available to view on Music Network’s YouTube channel in 2021.

About Simon Peter King

Since graduating from Leeds College of Music where he specialised in jazz guitar and drums, Simon Peter King has carved out a reputation as a technical and uncompromising jazz guitarist and multi-instrumentalist producer. He has been involved in musical projects as diverse as touring with The Drifters, producing music for Scott’s Bass Lessons, and touring and recording with his Organ Trio. Simon garners a following as a player online, has produced a highly regarded series of backing tracks, and has won the Musician’s Union ‘Outstanding Musician Award’ twice. Simon's AV production work has been in demand from such high profile clients as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Peace Northern Ireland and Ex Cathedra choir.
