An online performance featuring a new commission composed and performed by the exciting Ireland-based Italian guitarist Julien Colarossi.

Originally from Settefrati, Italy, guitarist and composer Julien Colarossi graduated with a first-class honours degree in jazz performance from Newpark Music Centre in Dublin, Ireland. Since moving to Ireland in 2007, Julien has collaborated and recorded on more than twenty albums and he has established himself as one of the most exciting young guitarists to emerge in recent years on the Irish jazz scene.

He is has a strong reputation not only as a performer but also as a composer and teacher.
Julien has collaborated with many of Ireland’s finest musicians and has performed all the major festivals in the country: the Cork Jazz Festival, Bray Jazz Festival, Derry Jazz Festival, Galway Jazz Festival, Brilliant Corners (Belfast), Limerick Jazz Festival and Down With Jazz (Dublin).

Internationally he has performed the Atina Jazz Festival (Italy) and the Copenaghen Jazz Festival (Denmark), as well as touring northern Ireland and England with the Linley Hamilton's Quintet.

Julien was a featured artist with the Ulster Orchestra at the Derry Jazz Festival 2016.
In November 2018 he released an album called In my Nature featuring an original collaboration with virtuoso vocalist's Gemma Sugrue.

The Julien Colarossi Quintet also features Dominic Mullan on drums, Barry Donohue on Double Bass and Johnny Taylor on Piano.

The Butterfly Sessions

Music Network has commissioned 24 musicians and composers to premiere new music in The Butterfly Sessions, an online performance series.

The 10-week series will feature two premieres each week broadcast on Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm. Performances will be hosted on Music Network's YouTube channel and shared across all of the organisation's social media platforms.

This new initiative is one of a number of ways in which Music Network is supporting Irish and Ireland-based artists in the coming weeks during the Covid-19 outbreak.
